Nina Baker is one of the UK’s most talented pianist-singer-songwriters. Within three years Nina has gained a fan base that stretches across the globe and has created a sound that she has simply made her own. A fusion of blues, pop, skiffle, rock, folk, jazz, country and classical all interwoven with Nina’s hallmark piano riffs, personal lyrics and unique vocal quality – Haunting. Powerful. Captivating. Nina recently came runner-up in MTV's Brand New for 2013 unsigned competition, beating over 500 acts to reach the final and impressing the MTV panel who said that "Nina brought something really unique to the competition, a mixture of light and dark makes her songs stand out". |

28th May 2010 will always be a momentous date for Nina, stepping out of the shadows and performing for the first time as a soloist. Capitalising on the vibrant music scene in the eastern counties, her appeal quickly spread across the region with her insatiable desire to play and unrelenting work ethic. In 2011 she formed a band consisting of bass sensation Fredy Solstice (Oli Brown Band), British blues drummer of the year Simon Dring (Oli Brown Band), double-bass player Owen Morgan (The Lost Levels) and guitar wizard Adam Moore (Amit Chaduri, Unborn Twin). This combination of styles was a brave new sound that caught the music world by surprise, but was met with resounding approval. Significantly in Nina's first full year she achieved national recognition with a nomination in the 2011 Exposure Music Awards in the Blues/Jazz/Soul category. At the beginning of 2012 her self-penned EP “Teacup In A Strom” was released, to much acclaim. A collection of five tracks of incredible diversity, from subtle piano-ballad to two-tone jam to unadulterated rock. The EP recorded at the Mill Studio by Jonny Cole (The Kabeedies, Catherine Feeney, These Ghosts) captures the band’s compelling live sound and Nina's majestic voice. The day following the E.P launch, Nina and the band travelled to Rockfield Studios to start work on the full album. Under the stewardship of Nick Brine (The Darkness, Stone Roses, Bruce Springsteen), Martin Levan (Iron Maiden, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Sarah Brightman) at Redkite Studios and Tristan Ivemy (Frank Turner, The Holloways, Billy Lockett) at the Church Studios, it is a body of work of sensational energy and vocal emotion delivered as only Nina can. The album called “Quite Frankly” is a big-scale, uncompromising production, a roller-coaster of soaring highs and wallowing lows and due for release in 2013. A humble girl on and off the stage, Nina would like to thank everyone that has supported her so far and looks forward to bringing more music, more performances and more enjoyment to an ever increasing audience. The journey is just as important as the destination, so keep following..... |
